The Kaiser, gratified at the success of German horses at the Olympia Horse Show, has issued a - proclamation thanking the Prussian horse-breeders. PLAGUE RATS IN LONDON. London, June 16. Special precautions are being taken at Shadwell (London), owing to a number of rats having died of plague. 18 HOURS UNDER WATER. Paris, June 16. The crew of the submarine Argonaute voluntarily submerged thpir ship at Toulon for eighteen hours, which is a record time spent under sea water. A TRAITOR PUNISHED. Berlin, June 16. Joseph Reraane, a reservist, has been sentenced to ten years' penal servitude at Leipsig for having sold carbines and military drawings to France and Russia. His sister was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment for having abetted him.
AUSTRALIAN OFFICERS IN LONDON. London, June 16. Mr. Batelielor and twenty Federal members inspected Trafalgar Square, the Strand, a.nd other sites for the Commonwealth offices. Almost all agreed to the Strand site. The Premiers of tho Australian States agreed to recommend their respective Governments to combine in centralising their offices in one Australian building.
PROSECUTING TRUSTS. New York, June 10. A number of senators ure pressing for the criminal prosecution of the oil and tobacco trusts, following the recent legal decisions. The Kansas Supreme Court has issued orders that the Indiana Standard Oil, Kansas Standard Oil, and Prairie Coal Gas Companies are subsidiaries of Standard Oil, and prohibiting them combining to stiile competition. TAKING SEALS AT SEA. New York, June 10. It is expected 'that the International Sealing Conference will agree to the payment of reasonable compensation by America and Russia to Canada and Japan in return for the latter relinquishing the right to take seals a-t sea. It is probable that a proportion of the profits from seal-killing will be devoted to compensation purposes.
