• CHRISTCHUBCH SESSIONS. By Teiegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day the following sentences were passed:—Kenneth Armstrong, who pleaded guilty in the lower court to a charge of false pretences, was admitted to a year's probation and ordered to pay £7 10s in restitution and costs. Samuel Wilson, for breaking and entering, was sent to a reformatory for twelve months, to be then released if the authorities considered him a fit subject for discharge. SCHOOLMASTER RECEIVES DAMAGES. Auckland, Friday. In the action for libel in which William Masson sued William Richardson, chairman of the Maungatapere School Committee, claiming £5Ol damages in respect of defamatory statements in a letter written to the Education Board by defendant, plaintiff being headmaster of the school, the jury found a verdict for plaintiff on all issues and the fuJV damages claimed. The case occupied ten days, and the decision was held over to decide the question of costs for eight extra days. AUCKLAND SESSIONS. Auckland, Friday. At the Supreme Court this morning John Kettles, who had pleaded guilty to forgery at Gisbornc, failed to appear, and it was presumed that he had leftthe country. Mr. Justice Edwards said that Kettles by forgery got £lB 19s, and when before the lower court stated that he was induced to commit the crime to relieve the distress of his wife and family in Scotland. Inquiries made showed that his wife had only received 30s from accused prior to the offence. A warrant has been issued for Kettles' apprehension.
