THE CORONATION.
XEW PLYMOUTH'S MEMORIAL; The Borough Council last night discussed the form of New Plymouth's Coronation memorial. The three schemes referred to the Council by the Finance Committee were: A band rotunda at Western Park; an avenue of trees along the sea front; and a swimming bath in the Hcnui river. The Mayor referred to these, and invited suggestions. Or. Ambury quite side-tracked all these schemes by bis suggestion that as the subsidy could be earned on buildings for public purposes, New Plymouth's best investment would be a good permanent agricultural hall for the holding of the winter shows, etc., and he iea sure that this scheme would prove very popular with the public. The Mayor said that this would he a very good commemoration scheme, but some £2OOO or £3OOO would be required, which was "a pretty big hurdle." Or. Browne submitted the Western Park band rotunda scheme, but said that he was prepared to fully consider Cr. Ambury's scheme. The Council adjourned at a later stage till Friday to consider the' whole scheme.
