ALLEGED INCENDIARISM
KLTHAM RESIDEXT ARRESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Eltham, Last Night. An enquiry wa9 held to-day before Mr. Kcnriok, S.M., touching the fire on January 23, which resulted in burning down a farmhouse belonging to John Robertson, and which was occupied by him and a share-milker named Nicholas Albert Maddcrn. Robertson had the house and contents insured in the Xew Zealand office for £IBO, the claim being immediately settled. Maddern also had* a policy in the Guardian office for £IOO on the furniture and effects, including a piano belonging to Robertson, which was already insured. Mad<lcrn's claim was not settled, pending the enquiry. The Magistrate found that the house was wilfully set on fire, with intent to defraud the Guardian Insurance Company. Maddern was subsequently arrested. Accused subsequently came before Mr. Kenriek, S.M., and oh'the application of Detective-Sergeant Boddam was remanded to Saturday, 17th inst.
