THE IMPERIAL IDEAL.
SIR WILFRID LAURIER'S PROPOSAL. By Cable—Press Association—Cooyrirht. Melbourne, June 1?. Mr. Hughes. Acting-Federal Premier, regards Sir Wilfrid Lnnrier's proposal that the Imperial Council should endow the Dominions with powers to make treaties with foreign countries as completely opposed to the Imperialistic ideal. If adopted, it might happen, and in the case of Canada would happen, that some portion of the Empire would have better tariff term;; with a particular country than other portions had. This would make for disintegration of the Empire.
