THE WINTER SHOW.
THE PRESIDENT? RETURNS THANKS.
Mr. Walter Ambury, president of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, writes to the editor as follows:—Kindly grant me space to address a few words to our fellow settlers and townsfolk. Our second winter show closed a few minutes ago, and on account of the thousand and one details which have to oe attended to at such times, and the wide area over which the crowd were distributed, it was impossible to get the attention of all, so 1 hasten, on behalf of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society, to •publicly thank the various sections otthe community who have contributed to the success of the show. Seeing we had such a variety of weather—wind, rain, hail, thunder, lightning and earthquake—we were delighted to have a dash of sunshine mixe<l in on one afternoon, and we are thankful it was no worse. We feel greatly indebted to the public for their hearty support under such unfavorable conditions. We thank the many exhibitors, who worked hard and devoted much time to preparing the splendid display of produce, manufacturers, etc., placed on exhibition, and for the donations of produce. We thank the many friends outside the general committee who rendered so mucn gratuitous service. We thank the press also for its unstinted generosity in making known, through its columns, the various points of interest to the public, and the persistent effort put forth in bringing the claims of the society before the community. We would not forget the generosity of the Garrison Band and the United Orchestra in providing such pleasing programmes of choice music on the show evenings gratis. Also many thanks to the judges and to those who have donated special prizes and gifts to the society's funds. Permit me, personally, to thank the com- ' mittce for the immense amount of time and hard work given so generously to jthc successful carrying out of the function.
I would intimate that, as the result of the immensely increasing interest and enthusiasm shown in connection with this our second effort, and the gratification expressed on all hands on the marked improvement in the show generally, a sub-committee has been appointed to at once gather information, consider schemes, and bring down proposals to a general meeting at an early date for the procuring of a suitable permanent building, when i hope a direct .definite appeal will be made to the generosity of every settler and townsman in Xo'rth Taran'aki, resulting in the establishment of a building worthy of Taranaki under such conditions that our annual winter show will become n household word and a joy for ever.
