The Countess of Jersey gave a garden party on Friday to oversea Ministers and Victoria League delegates at Osterley Park. Mr. C. Carter cabled on Saturday that after a rough trip he had just been able to connect with the steamer Orontes at Sydney.

Mr. P. R. Waddy left Wellington for Sydney on Friday in consequence of tne receipt of a cablegram announcing the serious illness of his father, Mr. Percy Waddy, for nearly 50 years an official in the servjee of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, Ltd., and for upwards of 35 years manager of the West Maitland (X.S.W.) branch of that company. Mr. Waddy, senior, recently turned 05 years of age, and was stricken with paralysis a few months ago. He is a son of the la£u General Sir Richard Waddy, KX'.B.

Mr. M. Rudd was tendered a farewell social by the members of Whiteleyj Church choir on Friday night. Mr. Rudd has been a member of the choir, for the past four years, and hat taken an active interest in its welfare. Complimentary speeches were made by the Rev. J. W. Burton, Mr. G. H. White, Mr. Lawn, and others, and all expressed their regret that the choir wa« losing Mr. Rudd's services. Opportunity was taken also to farewell Mr. Rnnderson, who has been a member of the choir for two or three years. Mr. W. E, Gwillim, chief butter grader at Wellington, who has. been appointed to go Home to inspect the handling of Xew Zealand produce in England and keep the producers in touch with the requirements, has had a long experience of matters connected with the dairying industry. He began with an engagement with Messrs. Rnwson and Hodgson, Tooley street, London, and later came toXew Zealand, and was appointed butter maker to the Fresh Food and Ice Company. Subsequently he Was appointed manager to the Eltham Dairy Company'* factory, in which position he was regarded as one of the leading butter makers in Xew Zealand, and in 1907 he entered the Department of Agriculture as grader and dairy instructor.
