LABOR CO-OPERATION.
STRONG FINANCE NECESSARY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, June 9. A committee of the Labor Council reported that the proposed scheme of cooperation which relied on the subscription of a shilling monthly from 120,000 trades unionists was impracticable, though the principle of co-operation was approved. Members expressed the view that co-operation jvitli a strong backing was necessary in order to meet rings. A member of the Coal Lumpers' Union informed the Council that shanghaing was rife at Newcastle, men being bought and sold like sheep at Sydney and then shipped to Newcastle.
