Mr; Juunes O'.Sullivun, the well-known V'All Black" Taranaki footballer, was married at Pa tea on Thursday to Miss Kate Sheahun.
-Mr. It, J. Karnes, who was for .some years associated with the llaweia Slur, has joined the .stair of the Xew Zealand l'l rmer as sub-editor.
A London cablegram reports that the Rev. Mr. Stack, late of the Maori mission, is to preach on Sunday at the Maori Village in the White City. Mr. Fred Home, formerly of Queensland, a brother of the Rev. Silvester Home, M.P. for Ipswich, has been appointed one of the Small Holding Commissioners.
Mr. A. T. Donnolly, who was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court in Christcliurch yesterday, is said to be the youngest barrister in New Zealand. He was 21 years of age on Tuesday. The appointment of Mr. H. H. Ostler, of the Crown Law Department, as Crown Prosecutor for the Island ot • Rarotonga is gazetted. Mr. Ostler i» at present on his way to liarotonga for the purpose of conducting the ease for the Crown in a murder trial.
Mr. Vincent Jervis, of liunedin, who recently passed tho entrance examination for the Australian Military College, has received instructions from the Defence Department, Wellington, to report himself to headquarters on the 10th inst. for attestation and inspection prior to leaving for Australia on that dat*. Mr. J. A. Millar has telegraphed to Mr. 11. Okey, M.P.: "I propose to arrive in New Plymouth by the mail train on Monday evening next, remain-' ing till Tuesday and leaving again by Wednesday morning's train. I shall be glad to see you and deal with any business you may desire to bring before me."
Lieutenant-Colonels J. Allen (Dunedin), G. P. C. Campbell, V.D. (Wellington), J. Cooper, V.D. (Christchurch), and G. W. S. Patterson (Auckland), each commanding divisions of garrison artillery in their respective districts, have been promoted to the rank of colonel, and have been appointed coast defence commanders of their districts for a period of four years. Mr. Everard John Finch, inspector of the Bank of New South Wales for New Zealand, will retire from the service of the institution at the end of the month. He entered the service of the Bank as a junior clerk in 1860. hi July, 1908, he was appointed inspector for New Zealand, a position he has filled ever since. It is Mr. Finch's intention to return to bis native land and reside in Sydney.—Press wire. At the Chamber of Commerce meeting last night Mr, S. W. Shaw made reference to the promotion of Mr. M. Rudd, a member of the Council, to Auckland. He eulogised Mr. Rudd's work in the interests of the district, apart from his official position as representative of the U.S.S. Co., and in that capacity he had few equals, nothing being too much trouble for him to undertake in connection with the interests of the company's clients. He moved that the Chamber congratulates j Mr. Rudd on liis promotion and expresses regret at his departure; and that a copy of the resolution be sent to Mr. Rudd. Messrs. J. B. Connctt and Ab. Goldwatcr spoke in a similar strain, and the motion was passed unanimously. Mr. Francis Vernon Frazer, solicitor, of Christchurcli, says a Press Association wire, has been appointed a Stipendiary Magistrate. Mr. Frazer, who is at present a partner in the legal firm of Messrs. Ilill and Frazer, of Christchurch, was born in Dunedin in 1880, and was educated at the primary schools, Nelson College, Otago University College and Canterbury College. He took the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts (with honors in political science), and Bachelor of Laws. He entered the legal office of Mr. John Wilkinson, of Dunedin, in 1898, and remained there for four years. Subsequently he was with Mr. Donald Reid, of Milton, as managing clerk, and later on was at Dannevirke and Waipawa in the North Island. In 1908 he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court at Napier b*v Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice), and short- ' ly afterwards joined Mr. Hill in hi* practice at Christchnrch.
