DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

FORMED AT NEW PLYMOUTH. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Defence Rifle Club, held in the Guards' orderly-room last night, was attended by about fifteen old volunteers, Mr. A. L. Humphries presiding. It was decided, on the motion of Sergeant Evans, seconded by Private Blanohard, that a defence rille club be formed, to be called the Taranaki Guards Rifle Club. An executive committee was set up, comprising Messrs. Humphries, Hill', Bruce, Oliver, Evans, Short, and Marett. Some discussion took place in reference to the age of admission, Sergeant Evans poiating out that men over 21 years of age were not eligible to become members of the Territorial force, and thai, they were unable to join a rifle club until they had passed the age of thirty years.—The acting-secretary (Mr. F. J. Hill) will make the necessary enquiries. It was explained that the members would have to buy their own rifles, and that the ctuh would be able to use the. Rewa Rewa range. Promise was given of a very large membership, some thirty names being listed. The meeting was adjourned till next Tuesday evening, whon the president will be elected and the forms completed for forwarding to the Defence Department. ■ ■i'i*' , <iJs The list is lying at Mr. Hvans' boot shop for signature.
