THE WINTER SHOW.
PROMISING PROSPECTS. A VERY LARGE EXHIBITION ASSURED. The Taranaki Agricultural Society's second winter show is to be opened this afternoon by the Hon. D. Buddo, Minister of Internal Affairs. At time of writing the weather is promising well, and in every other respect the hard-working committee is justified in looking forward to a very successful show. The last few days have been days of bustle and activity at the Drill Hall, and the place has been transformed. There is a very large temporary addition to the building, built of and roofed with iron, and this provides a very big space for the display of machinery, farm products, and so on. As has already been published, the farm produce section will be the largest and best ever staged in Taranaki, some of the produce entered being of very fine quality. The districts competition ha» drawn entries each of which is a show in itself, and, apart from the objectlesson provided as to the productivity of the soil of Northern Taranaki, it will prove an eye-opener to many as to what a district, its farmers and farmerswives, are able to exhibit in a district competition. There are all the products of many farms and trades, and of many well-ordered households, very attractively arranged. There's more than a shilling's worth of "show" in these competitive groups alone. The tradespeople of New Plymouth have several very attractive displays. Hundreds of proofs of the enlinary skill of our housewives and technical school girls are to be found in the cookery section, and here the ladies are bound to congregate, and there will be hard work for the judge. It is quite impossible even to outline the many points on which the show is to appeal to alike to town and country residents, but there is a section for everybody's interest, instruction, and entertainment. All that is needed now to make a success of a show for which may have strenuously and willingly labored for many months past, is for.the people to visit it. To-day is opening day. To-morrow and on Friday and Saturday the show is to be in full swing, Friday being a children's day, on which it is hoped to see troops of school children inspecting the many exhibits that will tend to give th<>m a better idea of the great ■possibilities of Tarnnaki. We wish the society good weather and a glorious success in an undert-'-ng that has been so successfully arranged so far.
