The first representative match of the season was played to-day between Wanganui and Taranaki. The game was fast and open, and was witnessed by a large attendance.
In the first spell the score was Wanganui three (unconverted try by Campion) to nil. The second spell saw Taranaki run up nine points to the locals' nil. The visitors' score was made up of a try and two fine goals by Stohr, one from a mark and the other from a penalty. The kicking by Stohr was a feature of the match. In the game itself the play was very even. Taranaki thus won by nine to three. The Wanganui team was not up to representative strength, several player being unavoidably absent.
