UNPRECEDENTED PROSPERITY. By Telegraph.—Frees Association. Sydney, June 3. The income tax returns indicate that a wave of unprecedented prosperity it passing over New South Wales. Previous records have been eclipsed. SUSPECTED LEPROSY. Sydney, June 3. A Kanaka in one of the northern suburbs is suffering from what is believed to be leprosy. MISSING BOAT FOUND. Brisbane. June 3. The boat Yakla, which with six youths on board was missing from Cairns on May 4, has been found capsized at Cape Flattery. It contained a watch inscribed with the name of one of the missing youths.
WRECK OF SURVEY STEAMER. | Sydney, June 3. The survey steamer New Guinea was wrecked at' Green Cape in February. There is a prospect of salving a portion of the cargo. OBJECTION TO STATE QUARRIES. Sydney, June 3. A deputation of quarry-owners protested to Mr. Griffiths against the proposed State stone quarry. He replied that unless stone was supplied more cheaply he would proceed with the matter, ESCAPED PRISONERS CAUGHT. Perth, June ii. Two natives under sentence of death and one serving a life sentence escaped from Broome gaol, but were recaptired after a lively fight, in wliich one prisoner and one black tracker- were injured, but not seriously. RABBIT-CATCHING. Sydney, June 2. School inspectors report that rabbiting in the State lias a brutalising tendency on young children, and the result will be the production in a few years of a superabundance of unskilled labor. MEAT INSPECTION. Melbourne, June 3. The Minister of Customs denies the reported lax supervision of meat for | export, and states that since the Commonwealth took control the supervision has been much keener, and as the result he lias noted a great improvement in Australian meat arriving in London. He attributes the report to the fact that the additional stringency of inspection has curtailed the proiits of certain exporters. NEW ARBITRATION ACT. Adelaide. June 3. ! Mr. Denny, Attorney-General, outlined a new Arbitration Act by which he hopes to abolish irritating and inconvenient strikes. Tho Bill provides legislation for all trades unions and industrial organisations, also for the notification of threatened or impending industrial disputes.
