Mrs. Cameron called evidence to prove that she was seen wearing a necklace of real pearls after the borrowed ones had been returned. London, Later. Lieutenant and Mrs. Cameron were found guilty and sentenced to three years' imprisonment each. STORY OF THE ALLEGED THEFT. Lieutenant; Cameron, a youn<j officer of the Royal Field Artillery, informed the police that his wife had. while shopping, been robbed of a necklace valued at £7OOO. The theft was alleged to have taken place at six o'clock.in the evening in Shandwick-place, Edinburgh, a bright-ly-lit thoroughfare Tt was stated that while the lieutenant was in a shop a man came behind Mrs. Cameron, who was waiting outside, and eripping her tnroat with one hand unfastened the necklace with the other and ran off with u. A few days later Lieutenant Cameron offered a reward of £SOO for the recovery of the necklace, and Lloyd's, wnerc the pearls were insured, offered a similar sum. Mrs. Cameron is an Irishwoman. The necklace, it is said, consisted of 110 pearls, and came to Mrs. Cameron through a distant relative with the request that she should wear it always. The young couple were some weeks later arrested on a charge of attempting to obtain insurance money by false representations.
