THE WINTER SHOW.

Mr. W. Ambury, president of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, writes as follows:—The Winter Show which opens next Wednesday at 2 p.m. should prove the greatest attraction to New Plymouth for a long time past. year's "baby" has grown to more than twice the size in a year. We have received over 1000 entries (228 more than Auckland), and more than double the space of last year has been let. A building the full width of the street and length of the Drill Hall is being erected, so that the exhibits and working machinery will be under cover. I propose, by your kind permission, to summarise a few of the sections, so that the public may have a fair idea of the extent of the coming display. In dairy produce there are 26 entries, fruit 27 entries, vegetables 141 entries, field roots 82 entries, farm produce 3!) entries, model stack covering 5 entries, amateur photography 14 entries, best fancy work 15 entries, wood carving 5 entries, loaf home-made bread "24 entries, best home-made cake 04 entries, fancy cooking 204 entries, basket fancy sweets 34 entries, home-made soap 2 entries, jams, pickles and bottled fruits 30 entries, honey 8 entries, children's competitions 41 entries, invoicing and letter-writing 41 entries, geometry and drawing 33 entries, school classes (12 articles) 20 entries, sewing 10 entries, knotting and splicing 4 entries, miscellaneous (for exhibition only) 00 entries,' besides many other sections not enumerated here. Wood-turning; milking machines, knitting machines, printing machines and other working exhibits will be in motion. Included will be a fine display of motor cars lighted by electric light generated from tho motor wheel. There will also be manufacturers' and tradesmen's displays all round the buildings. The great attraction will be the district displays of farm produce, where farmers have combined to make a collection representing the districts. These courts will be worth going a long way to see. The committee has worked hard to make the show worthy of Taranaki. Tho expense has been very heavy, and we now look to the residents in town and country to support the Society in its objects of educating the interesting the old, and enthusing the battlers. Excursion fares each day and a school holiday on Friday, the fttl'i, should give splendid opportunities for all to visit the show at least once. Kindly arrange with the Rev. D. C. Bates for favorable weather conditions for us! In response to an invitation sent by him, Mr. W. Ambury, president of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, yesterday morning received the following telegram from the Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Internal Affairs:—"Shall be pleased to be with you to take part in opening of winter show on Wednesday next, at 3 p.m. Congratulate you on the numerous entries. Trust that good weather will assist in giving you a record attendance.—D. Buddo."
