THE CORONATION.
NEW PLYMOUTH'S PROGRAMME. It was a very "mixed" meeting last night in the Town Hall to discuss the manner of New Plymouth's celebration of the coronation of His Majesty tie King. It was mixed in its discussions, tree-planting, foundation-stone religious service, and flag saluting, being discussed over and over again in th« search for unanimity which was very near accomplishment at the close. The Mayor introduced the business,and outlined the programme as previously published. Then the meeting discussed the hoar of starting the religious service, the suggested hour of 11 o'clock being met with the statement that the Anglican service was fixed for that hour. There was much discussion on thitpoint, and then the general programme cropped tip. It was decided that Lieutenant-Colonel Okey, V.D., should marshal the procession at 9.30 a.m., the Garrison Band to lead off from the post office at ten streets to the part, o'clock along Devon and Liardet streets to the park. After much discussion on matters of detail, the following committee was appointed:—Processional and schools committee, Major Beurihgcr, Messrs. Dempsey, J. Paton, W. Ambury, H. Stocker, F. C. J. Bellringer, and the Mayor (convenor).
It was decided that the procession leave Egmont street at ten o'clock for the Recreation Grounds, and tEe unfurling of the flag at 10.30, and to ask the Borough Council to arrange for any other ceremony, such as the laying of the foundation stone, or planting the first tree of the proposed avenue. It was decided to make every effort to have a large gathering of the children at the patriotic service and unfurling of the flag. _ Dealing with the evening celebrations, it was proposed to arrange a procession of the fire brigade, with colored lights and flares, ftnishingwrthe Theatre Royal, where the Imperial concert is to be held. The Mayor said the funds raised at the concert would go towards the improvement of portion of Pukckur* Park by the Park Tennis Club, and he nop-ed it would be largely attended. Tin arrangement of the procession was left with Superintendent Bellringer, of the Fire Brigade.
THE PROGRAMME. The net result of meeting v was Hie following programme:— 0.30 a.m.—Procession falls in aT Devon street west. 10 a.m.—Procession moves off from Post Offiee. 10.30 a.m.—Unfurling and saluting the flag at the Recreation Sports Ground, Patriotic speeches. The National Anthem. 11.30 a.m.—United religious service.
