RAILWAY UNIONS AND TRADE COUNCIL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, June 2. A Trades Council deputation asked Mr. Watt, Acting-Premier, for permission of unions in the railway services to amliate with the Trades Hall. Mr, Watt declined, stating that tho only object of affiliation was to exercise outside pressure. If these unions affiliated the Trades Council might be in a position to make demands.
ALLEGED SHORTAGE OF LABOR. Sydney, June 2. The Government lias appointed a commissioner to enquire into the alleged shortage of labor. TRADE WITH SWEDEN. | Sydney, June 2. A Swedish Chamber of Commerce for 1 Australasia and the South Sea Islands has been formed with tho view of promoting trade with Sweden. The council includes business men of all the Australian States, Wellington and Suva. The licadquarters will be at Sydney. MISHAP TO BLUEJACKETS. Sydney, June 2. A naval skiff containing seven bluejackets capsized in the harbor. Five clung to the boat and were rescued. Two swam for the shore; one was rescued and the other is missing. THE STEAMER HANAN. Frcmantle, June 2. The steamer Hanan, which struck some wreckage off the South African coast while- on her voyage from Hamburg to Sydney, has arrived. Her cargo is undamaged, as the water did not enter her holds. Tho damage was repaired at Capetown. A REQUEST DECLINED. Sydney, June 2. Mr. Beeby declined a request to allow women to sit on the Women's Work and Wages Commission. AN APPEAL REFUSED. Melbourne, June 2.
