A conference of surveyors-general, Lord Lucas presiding, described surveyors as skirmishers in the front of the army, and the work was becomiig more important as the Dominions were opening up at an unexampled rate. If the profession were organised on a wide Imperial basis, it would attract the best class of men. Sir Duncan Johnston was chosen chairman.
