Tn tilt House of Commons, the Osborne Hill vvas read a second time by 210 to IS. Mr. F. Smith said the Hill would satisfy nobody. Its protection for minorities was illusory.
Mr. Ranisav Macdonald complained regarding the rights the Bill gives the minorities, but believed it amendable.
Mr. Churchill evoked a demonstration of disapproval by expressing the opinion that the. courts were biassed and doubtless were unconsciously dealing with questions involving class and party issues. Tjhe Government were erecting a bulwark between tin courts and the unions.
The Daily Chronicle draws attention to the danger lurking behind the Government's Osborne ilill, and recalls the fact that trade union* are not necessarily workmen's combinations. Masters may be registered as a trade union, if the principal object be the regulation oi the relations between masters and work men. The present Rill authorises tin master to raise a political fund to paj candidates' expenses. SUNDRY BUSINESS. London. May 31. In the House of Commons Mr. Isaacs moved the second reading of the Osborne. Bill. Colonel Seely, in reply to questions, read a letter in which Lord Robson, who was the counsel opposed to Colonel Morgan. the recently appointed messing adviser, declares that it now has become clear that Colonel Morgan was a most vigilant, unsparing and highly effective guardian of the public interest against the contractors daring the South African war.
Mr. Lanslmry (Socialist member for How) introduced a Bill providing for a weekly day of rest, making May 1 a bank holiday, securing a week's holiday for workers, and the payment of wages on public holidays.
