AUCKLAND'S POPULATION. By Telegraph frees Association. Auckland, Last Night. T!u' population of Auckland city and suburbs within a ten-mile radius of the (ien.nil Post Office totals up to 117,688, according to the census just taken. MEASLES IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, Last Night. In the city and suburbs and likewiM in the country districts, an epidemic of measles is reported. Nearly every school in the city and its environs reports that the attendance is seriously depleted a» the result of the meaßles outbreak, and evidently from the reports received by l the Education Board the trouble is fairly widespread in the country districts. Altogether it is believed that some hundreds of cases of measles exist in the vicinity of Auckland at the present time. THE RAILWAY SERVICE. Wellington, Last Night. The Railway Review states that when the executive council of a S.R.S. met the Hon. J. A. Millar recently, the Minister announced that £50,000 is to be expended upon increases in salaries to railway employees this year. \
ECONOMIC LECTURES. Christchurcn, Last Night. The colonial executive of the Tradeß and Labor Council fcave made arrangements with Professor Mills, of Milwaukee, U.S.A., to give a scries ot lectures throughout New Zealand on economic questions, as he has done in Australia. The secretary of the Trades and Labor Council has "been instructed by the executive to proceed to Auckland and meet Professor Mills on Saturday, and arrange his itinerary for the Dominion. GISBORNE HARBOR. Gisborne, Last Night. The Harbor Board has refused by a large majority to take a referendum of the people as to the provision of the N outer harbor. MR. MASSEY'S TOUR. Invercargill, Last Night. Mr. Massey addressed a big meeting in the theatre last night, Mr. Jas. Allen, M.P., being this time a member of the audience. The Mayor presided, and cordially welcomed Mr. Massey, who had a very good hearing, and roused much applause. Hits address was on the lines of those delivered elsewhere, and brought out nothing new. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation at the close of the address.
