It is said that on this account the butter supply is shorter than Manufacturers had calculated upon, and the factories are putting up their prices, in view of a possible shortage. In Wellington reports are current of high prices having been paid to factories for bulk butter. A Wainrapa concern is said to have asked and received an exceptional figure, and Taranaki factories are credited with having asked a similar price. A Wellington wholesaler says that it is almost impossible to buy butter in Auckland, but it must be remembered that .the quantity in cool store in Auck«. land is very heavy.
