ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
SUDDEN DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christehurch, Last Night. Joel Falkinder, 00 years of age, died suddenly to-day from heart failure. FALL ON AN AXE. Invercargill, Last Night. James Gill, a bushinan at Edgerton's mill, met the other day with a nasty accident, which will incapacitate him for some time. It appears that while carrying a saw and an axe in the bush, he stumbled, and fell on the upturned blade of the axe, severing the sinews in the forearm. The cut was seven inches in length, and required eleven stitches. The sufferer lost a considerable quantity of blood before reaching the mill, and on arrival was attended to and driven into Winton for medical aid. FALL FROM A GANGWAY. Wellington, Last Night. At 9.45 last night, a seaman named William Nockles, aged 31, single, from England, fell off the gangway into the harbor when going aboard his vessel, the Navua. Nockles struck his head against the wharf in falling. He was taken out of the water at once, but showed no signs of life. A doctor was summoned and pronounced life to be extinct.
FOOTBALL FATALITY. Dunedin, Last Night. Stewart Robertson, 21 years of age, who waa playing in a second grade Rugby football match at Montecillo on Saturday' afternoon, received an injury during open play and retired, as he was in great pain. He was taken in the evening to the hospital, where he died this morning. Medical examination revealed the fact that deceased had sustained a lacerated kidney. QUARRYMAN'S DEATH. Auckland, Saturday. James Dalrymple, who was seriously injured some months ago by a fall of earth at Parnell, died in the hospital to-day.
