LONDON MARKETS. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright Received 27, 5.5 p.m. London, May 27. Of the 182,058 bales catalogued, 8:1,000 were sold. The home consumption was 00,000, and the Continental 1000, while 38,000 were held over, including 21,000 bales of New Zealand. Compared with the March sales, Merinos generally showNed little alteration. The choicest lacked the United States support. Therefore prices were barely maintained. Fine medium and greasy crossbred closed at 5 per cent, to 7Va per cent, lower, the finer sorts showing the most depression. Coarse grades were firm and unchanged. Scoured declined a penny. Prices of lambs' wool were well maintained.
THE WOOL SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. The Department of Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner under date London, May 2G: —The third series of wool sales has closed. The advance secured at the opening has been lost, and values are now about the same as at the end of last sale. Trade is good, manufacturers are busy, prospects are favorable, and the market is steady and likely to remain so. Twenty-one thousand bales of New Zealand wool were held over. The estimated values of New Zealand wools at the close of the second series held in London on April 1 were: Superior merino, Is to Is 2d per lb; medium, lOd to liy 2 d; inferior, 8d to 9%d; fine crossbreds, to Is 2d; medium crossbreds, 9d to lid; coarse S'/iil to lOd.
