WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent). At the monthly meeting of the above Board, the clerk reported that Messrs Hall and Surrey had been declared duly elected members. There were present: Messrs Connott, French. Surrey, L. Turnbull. Mr. J. Connett was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. French reported that the chairman and himself had inspected the Karaka road, by lluirangi, and advised that about two chains of creek be opened up, a drain cut at the side of the road, and a redoubt at the corner filled in.

Surfaceman Palmer reported that the road-grader had formed a side-track on the Waitara road; had graded Pennington and Tate roads, and was now engaged in forming ci the Upper Te Arei road. A portion of Matarikiko road could now be formed, as the natives had cleared furze. Pipes had been put in on the Waitara road, and Haskell and Co. were now getting metal for repairs from Mahoetalii pit. Surfaceman Giddy reported that 125 yards of metal had been carted for repairs to the Richmond road, this completing Haskell and Co.'s contract. They were now at work delivering 100 yds for repairs to Wortlev road, and would finish in a day or two. A side-track had been made on Richmond road along Mr. Harris' frontage, Mr. Harris doing tyie ploughing without charge.

It was resolved that the Matarikioriki road be formed with road-grader.

The surfaceman was instructed to impound any stock turned on the roads, as complaint had been made re same. The balance-sheet was read, showing receipts amounting, with balance brought forward of £395, to £1130; general Tate, specials, £120; Government subsidy. £ 110; donations, £7. Expenditure: £1306. roads and bridges taking £440, law costs £l4, interest on loans £l3O, land for deviation £ls, printing and advertising £l3, salaries £3O; leaving a credit balance to be carried forward of £402.

Accounts, amounting to £lif!, were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
