THE VANCOUVER SERVICE.
THE COMMONWEALTH'S ATTITUDE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, May 24. Mr. Hughes, discussing Mr, Holman's suggestion regarding the Vancouver service, declared that it was infinitely preferable for the Commonwealth to do these tilings. There were insuperable difficulties in the way of arranging such a service as Mr. Holman desired to see. Upon a*£atisfaetory settlement of Aus-tralian-Canadian reciprocity a shipping scheme would follow naturally. The only obstacle to the Commonwealth subsidising a service touching at New Zealand would then be removed.
