POLITICAL

MR. HURRIES AT PALMERSTON. By Telegraph.—Prean Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. Mr. W. H. Herrics, M.P., addressed a well-attended meeting to-night, and outlined the Opposition policy. He advocated the elective appointment of the Upper House, Civil Service board to deal with appointments and promotions, and the appointment of a railway commissioner. On the land question, he said the Opposition "policy was one of small freehold holdings, though the pastoral runs and backblocks lands would have to remain. On the native land question he advocated the placing of these on an individual instead of a communistic basis, and also advocated giving educated Maorig equal ■rights and privileges of Europeans. A vote of thanks and confidence was accorded.
