GABRIEL'S GULLY.
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Lawrence, Last Night. The celebration of the discovery of gold in Gabriel's Gully commenced at Lawrence to-day. Close on 1500 visitors arrived in town from J)iincdin and ■ Surrounding districts, and tt grand procession was taken part in by 283 pioneers of 1801 and subsequent years. Of tills number about 230 were pieneers of 1861, who liavc come together from all parts of New Zealand, and as far distant as Victoria. Hon. R. MeKenzie, Minister of Mines, was present, and addressed a gathering of about 2.500 people. Speeches were also delivered by Mr. James Robertson (Mayor of Lawrence) and the organiser of the movement, members of Parliament, the Mayor of Dunedin, and others.
The celebrations, which have opened most auspiciously, are to continue throughout tne week.
