The University Undergraduates' Committee, which was ordered to appear before the Professorial Board, explained that the songs sung on Saturday were never intended to be taken seriously. The committee disclaimed responsibility for the molestation of the Chancellor, who had written to the Board asking that the charges might he withdrawn as far as he was concerned. The Board decided to allow the matter to drop. RELIGION AND CRIME. Sydney, May 20. Cardinal Moran objects to the published statistics of criminals making mention of religion, averring that many nonCatholics were entered as Catholics, conveying an erroneous impression. While Roman Catholics are less than a third of the population, they appear on the criminal lists to constitute half of the whole number of persons charged. THE YOXOALA. . Adelaide, May 2(1. The Port Darwin escapee has been recaptured in the bush, having been foodless for two days. REVISION OF TARIFF. Melbourne, May 20. The question of the revision of the tariff is still unsettled. The Minister of Customs has circularised the manufacturers with a view to determining if revision is necessary. The response is unsatisfactory.
