MR MASSEY AND MR FOWLDS
A CHALLENGE AND A REPLY. Uy Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The leader of the Opposition, having invited the Hon. U. Fowlds to tour the Dominion at the expense of his political opponents on promising to repeat his Pukekohe speech in every electorate, tht Hon. G. Fowlds told a New Zealand Tjmes representative that he is quite prepared to take up Mr. Massey's offer. "Yes, I saw it,, hut it was only bluff," replied Mr. Fowlds when asked if Mr. .Massey's challenge»had reached him during his travels. "When Mr. Massey gets his guarantee of travelling expenses complete, I will be prepared to favorably (•(insider the proposal. I notice he was discreetly silent on the principal charge I brought against hitn in that speech. That was that he hud appealed to foreign money lenders to put the squeeze on New Zealand, and I hope farmers ana settlers in the back blocks will take notice of that fact, because the stoppage of money for making roads v and bridges is. likely to do more serious injury to them than the presence of a single tax Minister in the Cabinet."
