DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondents.) WAREA. A meeting of the Warea Defence Rifle Club was held on Saturday night. Mr. T. E. Larking was elected secretary. The first rifle practice of the season was held last Saturday afternoon. Mr. R. ,T. Warburton, who has been in the district for the past five years, left last week for a holiday trip to Australia, where all his relations reside. He is not yet certain whether he will return again in the spring or not. The milk supply at the local factory is now decreasing very fast. The factmy is now running every other day : for the winter months. I The ladies of the district have finished all the sewing in connection with the bazaar work, which is to be held on the 7th and Bth of June in aid of the local hall fund. I understand Mr. Okey, M.P., has promised to open the bazaar. A social was held in the local hall on Wednesday night. Tile night was fine, but very cold. Mr. T. E. Larking acted as iI.C., while the music was supplied bv Misses Aylward and Corbett and Mr. Waller. PUNIHO. | The milk supply at the local factory j is dropping very fast now, and the | milk is being taken only every other I day. I A social will be held in the school on Tuesday, 23rd. The gentlemen's object ! of the social is to give the ladies of the district a spread. The ladies of this little district have always willingly helped with everything that has been held here ever since the school has been used for public affairs, and they have' always provided the supper at the functions that have taken place, and it is thought that the gentlemen of the district would be doing the right thing in recognising the services of the ladies. Mr. Thomas, the schoolmaster, has', kindly thrown open his house for the night. A strong committee consisting of Messrs. F. Gibbons (chairman), J. A. Thomas (secretary), G. Petch, A. E.I Sadler, Titos. Putt. A. Lambie, H. Lander, C. W. Kevell. J. Knight, E. Elwin, W. Ilill, H. Pierson, F. Pierson, W. Bishop, and M. D. Rodgers, has been formed to stand the expense, if there is a deficiency. A working committee, consisting of Messrs. F. Gibbons, J. A.I Thomas, C. W. Revell, H. Lander, M. Hill, J. Knight, G. Petch and M. D. Rodgers, will carry out the work, and will go to no end of trouble to make] this social a success. , I understand a petition is going round on the Puniho Toad for the purpose of! getting a creamery built at the top end of the road.
