EDUCATIONAL

AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION IX OTAGO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the Otago Education Board to-day, Mr. Richardson, Chief Inspector, presented a report on the nroposal to appoint an agricultural instructor for the education district. He stated that funds to pay an instructor could come from three sources, viz., capitation fees, allocation from annual grant for the training of teachers, and donations from societies interested in agriculture, with the Government subsidy thereon. Mr. Richardson suggested an alternative, the establishment in one of the farming centres of a purely agricultural high school or college, open to boys who had won proficiency certificates. Mr. Fleming strongly supported the proposal to appoint an agricultural instructor. He said that eight or ten' agricultural and pastoral societies in the southern district would contribute about .t'CO a year towards this, which, with the Government subsidy, would make £-)fiO per annum. He moved that the report be received and that the scheme be brought under the notice of the agricultral and pastoral societies, with a request for their support. The report was adopted, and Mr. Fleming's motion was carried.
