EMIGRATION

SETTLERS FOR VICTORIA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, May 17. The Hon. Mr. Baillieu, of Victoria, interviewed, eulogised the emigration work of Mr. Willis, who is returning to Victoria. Applications during the lattcr's term of office represent 4100 persons, possessing £250,000, of whom 2435, with a capital of £102,000, have sailed or booked passages. Mr. Baillieu looks forward to a rapidly increasing volume of new settlers. It will be necessary to organise and spend money in effectively advertising and to secure more shipping accommodation. Personally, Mr. Baillieu thinks it unnecessary to insist on taking people with capital if land is made available on easy terms. Every healthy man adds to the prosperity of the State.
