RATS ABOARD SHIPS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. A resolution was passed by the Federated Seamen's Union that, in view of the number of rodents killed on the Rosamond this month by the process of fumigation being over 200 in one hold alone, and in order to protect the health of the crews and the public generally against many diseases spread among the community by this class of animal, especially the plague, the Minister be requested to formulate and strictly enforce the regulation under the Shipping Act providing for the periodical fumigation of all ships owned or registered in the Dominion at least once In six months. THE IRISH ENVOYS. Hawera, Tuesday. Messrs Redmond and Donovan, the Trish delegates, delivered addresses here last night on Home Rhle, before a large and enthusiastic meeting. Clergymen of several denominations were present, and took part in the complimentary votes. A motion in sympathy with Home Rule was unanimously carried.
