LANG v. LESTER. THE AMERICAN DEFEATED. By Cable—Press Association-Copyright. Received 14, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, May 14. There was a great crowd at the Stadium for the Lang-Lester fight, which proved inconclusive. Five torrid rounds were fought. Towards the close of the sixth the American, in delivering a heavy body blow, landed on the Australian's fending elbow, suffering pain from the blow. His hand was partially crippled. Lester turned bis back on his opponent, and started to walk to the | middle of the ring. Lang followed, preparing to deliver a blow, when the American dropped on one knee. The referee, "Snowy" Baker, thereupon disqualified Lester for dropping without receiving a blow, and proclaimed Lang the victor. Lester showed himself a willing and punishing fighter, but wanting in skill, Lang outpointing him in every round. A doctor who examined Lester stated that the blow had driven the circumflex nerve of the near shoulder against the bone, causing intense pain. Lester protested his ignorance of the rule which lost him the fight, and said that it was allowed in America to do as he did. He is keen for another match.
