THREE Ml LI JON'S FOR PUBLIC WORKS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Auckland, Saturday. The Hon. R. McKenzie delivered a speech at Tauniarnnni last night. In replying to the Opposition critics, he said the Government had three millions in the bank available for reproductive public works. He defended the succession duties, under whii'li estates under ,t'2,i,000 were exempt if left to the widow, child or grandchild. The Government recently transferred £800>ul) from the surplus to the Public Works Department. This would be available for necessary purposes of settlement. He denied that the Liberal Administration had increased the taxation. On the contrary, it was the ease that remission of duties on tea, kerosene and other articles in general use totalled a very large sum.
