(Irom Our Own Correspondents.) EGMONT VILLAGE. The Boxing Club opened successfully on Monday night, when there was a fair attendance. Professor Stagpoole has been invited to bring out a team of'boys from his academy, and has very kindly consented. This .exhibition should do much to awaken an even keener interest in the sport than has so far been evinced.

The school hedges and trees have been topped and trimmed, and the grounds are now looking very spic and span, as are also the gardens. Their appearance reflects great credit on the committee. The sports held recently resulted in a a substantial profit, and £5 of this has been banked as a reserve fund for similar occasions, the remainder being handed orcr to the school committee for the improvement of the grounds.' The fortnightly meeting of the Debating Society was held on Friday evening, there being a large attendance. Mr. M. J. Marsh presided. Mr. P. G. Olson was elected a member of the society. The business for the evening—impromptu speaking—was then proceeded with. On the question, "Should the shooting of native birds be prohibited," Mr. Baxter, who was drawn to speak, managed to pass the death sentence on the poor innocents by the narrow margin of eight to six,

TARATA. On Thursday there was celebrated in our little township one of the ruost interesting functions that have taken taken place here for some time past, the marriage of Miss Catherine, eldest daughter of Mr. R. Paterson, sen., of Tarata, to Mr. Charles Frederick Weston,'of Korito. The weather was all that' could be desired, and the matrimonial service, which was fully choral, was attended by one of the largest gatherings known here. The bride was very daintily attired in ivory silk, 1 rimmed with all-over lace and' silk insertion. She also wore the orthodox veil and blossoms, and carried a shower bouquet of beautiful white chrysanthemums.and hycopodium. The bridesmaids, Misses M. and C. Patterson, were also prettily dressed iu white silk, with veils and carried bouquets of white flowers. The bridegroom was attended by -Mr. T. Weston, his brother, as best man, and . Mr. D. Paterson. brother of the bride, ' as groomsman.. After, the ceremony, tht guests, about seventy ill. number, adjourned to the Tarata Hall, where they partook of a sump!nous breakfast. On the breakfast table was a magnificent three-decked wedding cake, ornamented with wedding favors, and surmounted by three silver wedding hells. After the usual toasts .had been honored, the bride and bridegroom left for their new home at Kovito. amid, showers of rice, and carrying with them the best wishes of all. The bride's travelling dress was a grey tweed costume, prune colored hat, and a magnificent set of furs, the gift of the bride's mother. The happy bride was the recipient of a. large mini-' her of valuable presents, including several cheques, from intimate friends in the Tarata and other towni. Jn the evening a dance was held in the hall, and attended by a large number of people. Dancing and singing was kept up till 3.30 a.m., when the company dispersed, after giving three cheers for \ the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. R. Paterson, sen.
