Mr. Lafayette, the Edinburgh theatre fire victim, was under engagement to appear at the King's Theatre during the forthcoming Christmas season. GALE ON AUSTRALIAN COAST. Received 12, 7.35 p.m. Sydney, May 12. A otifl" southerly gale is blowing. There is further rain, and heavy seas are being experienced. Shipping is sheltering. ENGINE-DRIVERS' WAGES. Received 12, 10.55 p.m. Melbourne, May 12. The Federal Arbitration Court has delivered judgment in the claim of the En-gine-drivers' and Firemen's Association of Australia affecting a large number of leading mines throughout the Commonwealth. The rates are fixed as follows: Locomotive and winding-engine drivers, lis to 12s daily; other engine drivers, fls to 10s; firemen, in charge of one boiler, 8s 4d; two boilers, Os; greasers and cleaners, Ss. The Court did not think a case had been made out for preference to unionists. AYorking hours arc 4S hours weekly, excepting in the case of locomotive drivers, regarding whom it is impossible to fix hours. The award operates for five years.
RAILWAY COTJLTSTOX. Received 13, 12.40 a.m. Adelaide, May 12. A passenger train collided with four trucks at Mile End, and the engine was derailed. The leading carriage was burned, owing to the gas cylinder exploding. Two trucks were smashed and four railway employees were slightly injured, hut the passengers were unhurt.
