His Excellency the Governor will open the Dominion Winter Show in Hawera 011 July 5. Mr. Geo. Itobert.-on, inspector of the Government Life Insurance Department, was in Xew Plymouth yesterday. Mr. James Hunter, of Hawera, member of the famous "All Macks," was married on Wednesday to Mi*s Jean LOiing,. daughter of Mr. J. S. Young, of Haweric. A London cable reports that Messrs McGowen and lJolman, members of the Xew South Wales Ministry, had a long interview with Mr. llarcourt, Chief Secretary for the Colonies.

The Rev. R. J. Campbell, pastor of the City Temple, London, and author of "Tlip Xew Theology," will begin u preaching tour through the United States in the autumn, and will afterwards tour Australia.

A Wellington telegram states that in regard to the recognition of Mr. Claude's services by his prompt action in averting a collision between a runaway train and the' Main Trunk express, the Railway Department states that the mater is under consideration, and no action of any kind has yet been taken. Mr. G. M. Thomson, M.P. for Dttncdin Xort.li, underwent an operation for appendicitis on Monday, and is now progressing favorably. He is at present staying at llawera with his son, Dr. Thomson. Mr. Thomson lias definitely decided to stand again for Dunedin Xorth at the coming general election, and his committees are already vigor* oiislv at work.
