Mr. Taft, addressing an organisation of American farmers, bluntly declared that he was sorry to hear the farmers intended to desert the Republican Party if reciprocity were effected. The fear of such desertion would not affect his conviction regarding the wisdom of the proposed legislation. If experience showed that farmer's suffered, Congress would be certain to repeal the reciprocity agreement. He believed that the United States would send more agricultural .products towards Canada titan they would receive.
