RICE RIOTS IN HANKOW.
BUILDINGS BURNED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 9, 9.40 p.m. Pekin, May 9. A riot lasting ten hours occurred at Hang-Chow, owing to the high price of rice. Twenty shops and several mandarins' houses were destroyed. The mob attempted to rescue those arrested. The court buildings and police stations were wrecked. The military afterwards restored order.
