THE FEDERAL REFERENDA
AUSTRALIANS FAIL TO GRASP ITS MEANING. By cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, May 8. iMany London pressmen have interviewed Mr. McGowen, Premier of New South Wales. He assured them that the result of the referendum was not a slap in the face of the Federal or State Labor Governments. He was confident that if another election were held either for the Commonwealth or the State a Labor Government would be returned. His opinion of the cause of the failure of the referendum was that it was largely due to the people's caution and desire to understand more thoroughly the questions involved before making a change.
