NEW PLYMOUTH v. TATARAIMAKA.

A match was played on the racecourse on Saturday, between a team from the newly-formed Tataraimaka Club and thu New Plymouth Club. The ground was in good order, the rain which fell during the progress of the game not interfering with the play to any extent. The country team, considering that the majority of them were novices at the game, gave a fair display, and on the day's play were quite as good as the local men. The match was rather uninteresting, being marred by frequent breaches of the rules, which was only to be expected from the new players. There was little combined play by either side; Tataraimaka, if anything, showing the most combination. The play was very] even all through, the issue being in 1 doubt up to within a few minutes ofj the finish, when the local forwards succeeded in placing the winning goal. Many! opportunities to score were lost owing' to bad shooting, New Plymouth being the worst Offenders in this respect. The match resulted in a win for the local team by 4 goals to 3. The rcferecing was in the capable hands of Mr. Crawford.

A return match will probably be played shortly, when Tataraimaka, with ■some practice in the intcryal, may reasonably hope to come out on top. j
