At the Inter-State Rowing Conference a resolution moved on behalf of Tasmania in favor of the reinstatement of scullers who had infringed the interState amateur definition was negatived, the Tasmanian delegates alone supporting it. INTER-STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Received 7, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, May 7. The amateur sculling championsnip was won by McVilly (Tasmania); Towns (New South Wales) Becond, and Stevens (Victoria) third. They were the only starters. Won by four lengths. Eight-oar Cnampionship—N.S. Wales 1, Victoria 2, Tasmania 3, South Australia 4. New South Wales led from the start and won by two and a-half lengths. Victoria and Tasmania made a magnificent tussle for second place, and there was never half a length separating them. Victoria finished a third of a length ahead, South Austdalia a length away fourth. Westralia and Queensland were outclassed after a mile and a-half. The race is described as the most spectacular race ever witnessed. For over a mile there were five boats abreast, led by New South Wales. Time, 17min 24aec.

The Wanganui correspondent of the Dominion telegraphed on Friday:— Though after his defeat by Pcarec \Vm. Webb announced that he had retired from sculling, it is now stated that his friends here are trying to persuade him to come out and have another try for the world's championship. Webb himself has said nothing as yet regarding the matter.
