THE WAIHI GOLD MINE
NEW ZEALAND PROXY'S OPINION. \ By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 4, 12.10 a.m. London, May 3. Mr. Topham, proxy for the Wellington committee, writes to the newspapers that he is unable to endorse the pro.posal to move the Waihi directors to New Zealand. The formation of a strong London board is essential. EXPLANATION FROM WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. Li=t Niz'it. The Wellington committee of ?harcliolders in the" Waihi Companv has supplied the following:—The WeWigton committee of shareholders in the Wa'hi Goldmining Company have read the Press Association message, dated London, Mav 2, which infers that the policy of our committee if to transfer the control and management of the company to New Zealand. The 575 shareholder", whose proxies have been sent by f lvs committee to London, and who r'yrcscn'. :> capital of considerably more than 33.000 shares, do not wish to transfe: t'.ic control of the comnany to New Zealand, but do desire, in the interests of all shareholders, a complete change in the personnel of the directorate and of the local management, and to that end have nominated Mr. R. H. Topham and Mr. A. E. G. Rhodes, late of Christchurch, as directors. The cablegram appears to this committee to indicate that the London hoard, finding that the majority of New Zealand shareholders are opnosed to them and the local New Zealand management, are endeavoring to save the situation by an appeal to the prejudices of English shareholders.
