WELLINGTON MATCHES. The matches in Wellington on Saturday resulted as follows: Petone 25 v. Wellington 3; Oriental 35 v. Victoria College 0; St. James 16 v. Melrose 0; Poneke 14 v. Southern 3; Athletic 11 v. Old Boys 0. CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES. The opening matches under the Canterbury Rugby Union took place on Saturday, and resulted as follows:—Albion 5 v. Merivale 3; Old Boys 9 v. Sydenham 7; Christchurch 16 v. Canterbury College 3; Lin wood 5 v. Marist Old Boys 0.
Matters look very promising for the formation of the third Saturday football club in New Plymouth. Some further new members have handed in their names, and a good meeting is confidently expected on Thursday night. At a meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Referees' Assciation in Stratford on Friday evening, Mr. F. T. Bellringer was appointed president, Mr. T. Buchanan chairman, and Mr. C. Potts hon. secretary.
The Clifton and Tukapa clubs meet in a friendly game at Waitara on Thursday afternoon.
