Sydney, April 28. I The Australian Jockey Club hag decided to increase the added prize money next year by £6560. WELLINGTON R.C. MEETING. FIRST DAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, 'Last Night. The Wellington Racing Club's autumn meeting opened in doubtful weather, with a small attendance. The heavy going was against good times. The tote figures for the day were £13,045, against £12,470 last year. Results:— First Hurdles, one mile and threequarters,—Sunray 1, Bally Shannon 2, Whitestone 3. Also started: Torbelle, British Rifle. Sunray took up the lead after half a mile had been traversal. Won by three lengths. Waiwetu Handicap, seven furlongs.— Biatken 1, Toanga 2, Hilarian 3. Also started: Irish Rifle, Flingot, St. Felix,l Mira. Bracken led all the way, ana won by two lengths. Silverstream Handicap, seven furlongs. —Deploy 1, Longwood 2, Moutoa Girl 3. Also started: Floater, Brown Trout, Canterbury, Laius, Odessa, Retainer, Lady Volley, Golden Age, Foreshot, St. Brandon. Deploy took the lead from the start, and was never troubled.
Thompson Handicap, one mile.—l Kqtiitas 1, Vibration 2, Mulga Bill 3. Also started: Iranui, Full Rate, Sharpshooter, Vice-Admiral, Gipsy Belle, Dearest, My Lawyer, Wimmera, Woodhey. Genius, Kauroa, Sea Queen, Gunboat, Lady Moutoa. Equitas led from the start, and was never headed. Wimmera, the favorite, and Gunboat made gallant efforts to get a place at the finish, and just missed by inches. Equitas won by a length. Time, lmin 46see. North Island Challenge Stakes, seven furlongs.—Messrs. W. G. and G. L. Stead's Bandeira 7.1 (A. Stratford), 1; Sir Geo. Clifford's Madam Madcap 9.0, 2; Mr. J. Buckley's St. Petersburg 7.1, 3. Bandeira assumed the lead at the straight, and maintained it successfully, beating off a determined effort on the part of Madam Madcap, who was only half a length away at the post. Plunket Nursery Handicap, five furlongs.—Khamsin 1, Royal Scottish 2, Bootle 3. Also started: Terebinth, Mazurka, Aloha. Abercold, Sit. Victoria. Aloha led for two fiirlongs, then gave way to Royal Saltish, who took the field nearly to the post, where Khamsin. roiiiin<! fast, got the verdict by a neck. Tcnb'nth ran third, but the jockey did not weigh in. Time, lmin 5 l-ssce.
Railway Handicap, six furlongs.—Zealand 1, Thetis 2, Formby 3. Also started: Obsono, Gold Lace, Tumut, Sunburnt, Mon Ami, Tekahurangi. Tekahurangi took the field to the straight, where Mon Ami took up the running, but was supplanted by Zealand just on the post. Time, lmin 8 4-ssec. Tinnkori Handicap, six furlongs.— Turna I, St. Bees 2, Master Sylvia 3. Also started: Montiform, Allurement, Longstep, Rongomai, Kina, Makara, Miss Murphy, Varnate, Royal Knight, Egypt. Allurement and Makara made most of the running. A good race, won by a short head. Time, lmin 10 2-ssee.
