NORTH TARANAKI HUNT

A SUCCESSFUL MEET. The second meet of the season was held yesterday at Bell Block, when the j members of the North Taranaki Hunt Club had some of the finest hunting country in the district placed at their disposal by Mr. Harold Street. There was a big muster of members following, I as well as a large number of onlookers, I and a fine afternoon's sport was con- ! cjuded before the rain came on. Three kills were effected, the nineteen couples of hounds working admirably. Twenty : minutes after the throw-off the pack was in full chase, and four miles were covered before a kill waa effected. The I hares in the next run eluded the pack I for two-and-a-half miles, and in the third the hunt covered three miles. The jumping was excellent, and there was [ not a single fall. The huntsman, Mr. A. Cliff, certainly deserves congratulations upon his command of the hounds, a blast from the horn being obeyed in a moment, either for a find or a trail. | The hunt was excellently mounted, and this is a feature in which the club has | certainly done much for the district. At the conclusion of the sport the whole assemblage repaired to the homestead, where Mr. Harold and Miss Street provided refreshments in plenty. Needless to say, after the vigorous exercise in the open air, the repast was wholly appreciated. Mr. 11. Street conveyed to the members the regret of his mother, Mrs. R. Street, that she was prevented by illness from being present, and expressed on her behalf the hope that they would have a successful season. Mr. Halcombe thanked Mr. and Miss Street for their kiud hospitality, and expressed the good wishes of the club towards Mrs. Street, who is a keen supporter of the club.
