Another batch of local returns were completed by Mr. Holmes (Chief Enumerator) to-day, and in every instance an increase on the figures of the previous census is shown. The returns are all within the Eden county and' cover road board and town board districts. The Chinese population of the Eden county shows a substantial increase in the live years. In 1900 there were 95 males and one female, and the return now shows 323 males and 35 females. Following are the principal returns, excluding some of the islands in and around the harbor. The figures for 1906 are given in parentheses:—Arch Hill, 2120 (1952); Eden Terrace, 2587 (2338); Epsom, 2695 (1591); One Tree Hill, 3363 (1915); Panmurc, 255 (217); Mount Wellington, 419 (396); Ellerslie, 946 (6S8); Mount Roskill, -1004 (883); Point Chevalier, 1275 (902); Avondale, 2002 (1489); Chinese (Eden County), 358 198); Waiheke, 227 (163); Great Barrier, 416 1(312); Rutlies Island, 110 (7); Pakatoa, 22 (4); Kawau, 60 (22)-.

I PALMERSTON NORTH. Palmcrston N., Last Night. Census returns for Palmerston North borough show the population to be 10,985, against 10,237 at last census, an increase of 748. WELLINGTON. Wellington, Last Night. The census returns for Wellington and district show that the city proper has gained 5713 in population since 1906, while Wellington and suburbs (not including Petone and Hutt and adjacent districts) have gained 8066. The detailed figures, in comparison with those declared after the census of 1906, are as follows:

In the city, 1911, 64.276, in 1006, 38,563; Onslow, 1789—2098; Karori, 1449—2194; Miramar, 1630—952; Petone, 6641—5893; Hutt, 4262—3407; Eastbourne, 559—358; Johnsonville, 929—731; on ships, 1394—067; Makara county, 2708; Hutt county, 4132—7259; Upper Hutt, town district, 1050; totals, 90,819, compared with 82,122 in 1908. It will> be seen that there is an apparent decrease in population of Onslow and Karori. The explanation is that portions of these boroughs have been included in the city since 1906. Makara county and Upper Hutt town districts did not exist in 1906. The increase in Wellington and suburbs has averaged over 1200 per year,
