■» HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING. i From mil' Own (Vin'"<i><-:i<lcjiU. The annual householders' meeting took place on Monday evening, some eighteen persons attending. Mr. G. Pearce occupied the chair and gave the following report:— "In presenting to you their annual report and balance-sheet for the year ended March 31st, 1911, your committee although they have expended the whole of the revenue received from the Education Board, inclusive of the March subsidy, and the balance brought forward from the previous year, it was found necessary to do so. Owing to the increased size of the school buildings and necessarily the out-houses, the cost of attention in these departments has increased by £lO, other increases in e* penditure being requisites £2, repairs to buildings £7, and ground improvements over £3, making a total increase of expenditure of some £23, whilst increased capitation only amounted to about £5, thus showing an increase of expenditure, of £lB, leaving the small sum of 8b lOd credit balance. There are liabilities of some £lB to place against the next capitation, so that it will be necessary for the committee to practise economy during the coming year, but owing to the amount of work done in and around the school during the past year the expenditure in this direction should not be large. The figures in the balancesheet, which shows receipts to the amount of £79 9s Id, and expenditure of £79 0s 3d, leaving a credit of 8s lOd, speak for themselves. During the last month water from the municipal mains has been laid on, and the children are now assured always of pure drinking water. The matter of erection of shelter sheds has now been finally arranged for, and work will commence within the next week or so. The Education Board is erecting two sheds, 30 x 16, the committee subsidising to the extent of £4O, all additional to be paid by the Board. No doubt both parents and the children will appreciate the convenience. Attendance at the school is still on the increase, the roll showing that there are now 323 attendants, 173 of whom are boys and 150 girls. In conclusion your committee desires to thank the staff for their work during the year, and to congratulate them on the splendid success attained."
Twelve were nominated for the committee for the ensuing year, the retiring chairman, Mr. G. Pearce, declining reelection. The following were elected: Messrs. A. G. Johnstone, Wakely, Ford, Kettle, Ellis, Weston, Trim, Anderson and Elliot.
At a meeting of the committee held afterwards Mr. Wakely was appointed chairman. It was decided to hold the meetings as usual on the ■first Monday in the month. Messrs. Elliot and Kettle were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing quarter.
Locally there was not the amount of interest displayed in the Harbor. Board election as such an important position warrants. Probably the fact that there was only one more nomination than the required number was the cause. The only cases occupying the attention of the S.AI. to-day were a breach of prohibition order, £ov which U. O..Shut.e, of Urenui, was fined £3 and cost's, and a judgment summons, S. Frasev v. Fred. Recce, the amount to be paid within seven days, or in default seven days' imprisonment.
Master Roy AlcGuinness, whilst jumping his pony on Tuesday, fell off and sustained a broken collar-bone.
It is proposed to form an amateur opera company in Waitara., with a view to staging "Lea Cloches de Cornville."
