HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS
(From Our O.wi Correspondents.) TE KIUJ. Sixteen householders were present. The following committee was elected:— Messrs. A. Collins, Alex. Collins, J. Coupe, 11. (latenby, Hurst, R. Thomas and Woolford. Mr. C. H. Hurst was reelected cimirman and Mr. R. Thomas secretary. NLJAERE. Messrs. T. E. Chapman (chairman), T. Orr, A. Walker, H. Kenny, C. Robertson, T. Styles an.i J. Pennington (secretary). RATAPIKO. Messrs. J. Stackurski (chairman), F. Anderson, T. Burkett, J. Biesick, J. Bilski, J. Roguski and J. Johnston (secretary). KENT. Messrs. J. R. Rowlands (chairman), R. liielby. C. Southcomhe, J. Batten, J. A. Batten, F. L'hetfings, and H. Lethbridge. KORITO. Owing to the very wet night only a few householders braved the elements on Monday night. The chairman's annual report and balance-sheet proved very satisfactory, there being a balance of nearly £8 for the new committee to commence with. The following were elected the committee for the ensuing year: Mrs. M. Williams, Messrs. G. E. Boeock, J. Houlahan, J. A. E. Keast, M. Molloy, C. Warren and M. Williams. At a subsequent meeting of the committes Mr, G. E. Bocoek was elected chairman.
WAIONGONA. Owing to the inclement state of the weather the attendance was poor. Mi. R. Kilpatriek was elected to the chair, and, in the absence of the late chairman of committee, read the report and balance-sheet for the preceding year. The following nominations were received for the new committee, and were declared elected: Messrs. R. Kilpatriek (chairman and secretary), J. W. Henwood, G. Clough, F. Williams, and P. Stackurski. A resolution urging on the Minister oi Education the necessity for a Dominion scheme of promotion for teachers was carried unanimously. EUMONT VILLAGE.
Air. R. Burrows occupied the chair at the meeting of the school committee. The balance-sheet and report were adopted. Accounts amounting to £2 2s were • passed for payment. Votes of thanks to the chairman and secretary were carried by acclamation, Messrs. R. Burrows and G. Dewhirst suitably responding. The annual meeting of householders was held immediately afterwards, there being fifteen present. Air. G. 11. Dewhirst was voted to the chair. The report and balance-sheet for the past year were adopted. Nine nominations were received for the seven vacancies on the committee, a poll being therefore necessary. Messrs. H. Heal, H. 11. Olson, A. A. Yeatcs, E. Davis, M. J. Alarsh, Geo. Foster and U. Burrows were elected. Air. H. C. Fenton moved, "That this meeting of householders considers tb.it in the best interests of education a Dominion scheme for promotion of teacher? is urgently required and that this resolution be forwarded to the Minister of Education, Wellington." o*ded proforma. Considerable discussion followed, the general impression being that such a scheme would tend to diminish the powers of the committee, and also the Education Board. On being put to the meeting the motion was lost by a liig majority. Mr. R. Burrows, seconded by Mr. M. J. Marsh, then moved: "That it be a recommendation from this meeting of householders to the Education Department tkat the old system of pupil teachers be re-adopted." This motion was also responsible for considerable discussion, and was finally carried by nine votes to five.
A vote of thanks to the retiring committee concluded the meeting. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr, R. Burrows was re-elected chairman and Mr. G. F. Dewhirst secretary. It was decided to revert to the three o'clock closing and half an hour for lunch from the Ist of May, as usual. It was also decided to call for tenders for two cords of two-foot rata. The chairman and Mr H. Olson were authorised to examine the fences and call for tenders for the number of posts required to have the fences repaired. It was also decided that the hedges be trimmed and the belt of pinus insignis topped, Mr. TI. Heal undertaking the work. A meeting of the school picnic committee was then held, Mr. R. Burrows occupying the chair. The teacher's action in purchasing £2 worth of prizes for children's races was confirmed. Messrs. Burroms, G. Foster and A. Morton were appointed a committee to arrange the programme for the concert.
